VOLUNTEERING

Everything you need to know about your 3 Day Volunteering on tour. Are you ready to make a difference to a local family in need?

We're not only about giving you the trip of a lifetime... we spend part of our adventure doing something truly unforgettable. We give back!

A typical volunteer project could include house builds/maintenance, constructing toilets/bathrooms, building chicken coops and any renovations or repairs needed to the family we're supporting house.

What does a typical day of volunteering look like?

Each morning you'll be picked up from the hotel around 7am and taken to the project to start work (we like to start early due to the heat). You will be assisting local workers throughout each day and working as a team to complete your project.

We stop at around 11am for an early lunch. Lunch will be traditional Vietnamese food, normally cooked by a local family in the village. After lunch and a recharge, we return to the project to work until around 2pm. We then hop back in the bus and head back to the hotel for a well-earned rest and freshen-up!

What happens on Day 1 of volunteering?

It’s the day you’ve all been waiting for… we’ve had a pretty awesome time in Vietnam so far but nothing beats meeting the local family on Day 1. We’ll also be introduced to the small team of local builders, an assistant volunteer translator and the local authorities who helped us find the family and gave us the permission to get the job done.

After meeting everyone involved and discussing the project in hand we’ll split into teams and get stuck in!

Do you need any experience?

Absolutely NOT! You'll be with a small team of local builders from start to finish. Learning a few tricks along the way and working as a team is all part of the fun 💪🏻

Do I need a certain level of fitness?

Everyone is free to work at their own pace and to their own ability; there is absolutely NO pressure. You won’t find any competition as we’ll be working as a team, giving each other a push and we’ll constantly be reminding you to “listen to your body” if we see you getting tired. Vietnam can be hot, and it can be tough but you’re free to have as many breaks as you need.

From moving bricks, mixing concrete, chopping bamboo, shifting dirt, sewing curtains and cutting wire… there’s going to be plenty of jobs to go around for everyone with some more physical than others.

Where will the project be?

Your project will always be within a 10-15 km radius of Hue, in a rural area outside of the City.  Hue is in central Vietnam and we’ll be around mid way through our adventure when we start our volunteering.

What to wear whilst volunteering?

For your 3 days volunteering project, you’re going to get a little bit dirty. Here’s a few things you’ll want to bring…

  • Some old clothes that you don’t mind getting a hole in.

  • Suitable gloves you can build with (don’t worry, we’ll have some spares in case you forget).

  • Sturdy shoes; flip-flops/sandals can be dangerous if you are doing a building project.

  • Wear loose, long trousers; wearing shorts can result in cuts and scrapes on site.

  • Bring a hat & plenty of sun screen to protect you from the sun.

Should I bring gifts from home?

If you’d like to bring some gifts for the lolal family we’ll be supporting, then we suggest something small and light. We will have time to shop here in Vietnam and will have a better idea of what daily essentials they are in need of once we’ve met them and visited their home.
